Hello,My ~8 year-old Whirlpool Ultimate treatment II washing an equipment suddenly began making a loud, ratcheting kind of sound (the dial to be on spin cycle, ns believe). I progressed the dial hoping to eliminate the water (washer was full of water together it had actually been collection for an extra huge load cycle). The water did eject, yet only after making a very disconcerting racket. Ns let it remainder for an hour (hoping the would resolve itself ;-) and tried again. Now it either provides the loud ratcheting sound or a softer buzzing (depending ~ above the dial setting, at an early stage spin is soft buzzing -- however not the timer sound, it was something more -- further advanced on the turn cycle is loud/ratchety. I"ve read several threads and also was hoping that something can just be "jammed up" and also that a major repair (motor, clutch assembly, etc.) may not important if ns can gain it "unstuck." Is there a means to check if a minor repair is feasible (based, perhaps, ~ above which parts I can/cannot move by hand)? If not, I"m reasoning that purchasing a brand-new front-loader is the means to go. Any type of suggestions regarding which make/model is the many reliable would certainly be appreciated. Whirlpool has been pretty great to me. Besides having to change the lid switch around a year ago, it"s to be trouble-free.thanks for any type of advice!lloyd

Drd, your worry sounds more like the drive block could be the problem. Take the agitator off and what you"ll check out a big spanner nut holding the inner bathtub to the drive block. The spin tube has two ear on it and the journey block has actually two notches in it whereby those ear fit. Look in ~ this picture. Her drive block must look prefer the one ~ above the right.

Thanks much for the info, however the problem was specifically as diagnosed earlier. I changed the coupler (which was in pieces) and the washer has actually been functioning great! The advice top top this forum, and also the wonderful parts service and also support (I never might have excellent this there is no the step-by-step video!), is just superb. This is the third appliance repair I"ve made (one formerly on the washer, a defective lid switch, and another top top the dryer, a bad thermostat) have either saved me hundreds in repair receipt or hundreds much more in replacement. This is an example of what the internet does best. Can"t give thanks to y"all (as us say in Georgia
